Concrete Steps and Concrete Stairs

Concrete Steps or Concrete Stairs can be the focal point of an entryway to homes and businesses.   Silver Springs can help you design an entrance with that ‘wow’  factor!

Concrete stairs can be shaped, colored, and textured to fit the design of any entryway. You can color and stamp a concrete stairway to look like stone, brick, wood, or many other designs. Concrete steps with an exposed aggregate finish are a popular choice because of their attractive look and non-slip surface.

If you are having a concrete walkway installed, the concrete stairs can be poured at the same time to match the walkway design, texture, and color.

The versatility and durability of concrete along with the very low maintenance required make the choice of having concrete stairs over wood stairs an easy one. Concrete stairs will not warp, fade, splinter or rot. To keep a concrete stairway looking like new all you have to do is pressure wash and re-seal them.

When planning the look of your concrete steps the most important dimensions are the riser height and tread depth. Risers should be 4 to 7 inches in height and tread depth from 18 to 11 inches.

Some other concrete stairway design options:

1. For proper drainage, slope the steps forward 1/4 inch per foot.

2. The top landing for concrete stairs leading to entrances should be no more than 7 1/2 inches below the door threshold.

3. Using landings to break up cement steps that are 5 feet or higher is a good idea. The landings should be a minimum of 3 feet wide.

4. Having a deeper tread with a shorter rise will allow for a more natural stride.

Whether you decide to have decorative concrete stairs or plain gray cement steps, Silver Springs can help you make the best choice.

CustomerTestimony:Pressure wash and Seal

“ We recently had Silver Springs patch and seal our driveway. In 4 years we did not know we needed to seal our driveway and it had started to break up due to the harsh winter weather. Needless to say what a great job they did in bringing our  deck and driveway back to its beautiful original condition.

We would highly recommend Silver Springs for your concrete work”

Sopa Square June 25, 2011

This is the 5th pour our team has been working at Sopa Square since June 04 2011. Our crew has been working diligently in order to provide the most excellent quality and the best concrete services.

Kelowna Sopa Square

We are proud to be one of the few selected contractors who work on this highest of standards sustainable concrete building in Kelowna South Pandosy. The “raft slab” at Sopa Square is 2 ½ feet deep, of concrete and rebar, that spans 1.74 acres, the entire project requiring an estimated 20,000 cubic meters of concrete. Silver Springs has the expertise and experience to bring a project of this size to fruition.

Silver Springs is now offering moisture testing

When considering the installation of a floor covering or coating over a concrete surface, it is important to determine the proper moisture level in the slab to prevent a moisture-related failure. Obviously therefore it is critical to achieve accurate moisture (relative huminity) readings.

Silver Springs Concrete Services is offering professional concrete moisture testing to any your slabs when it is required.

Finished Logo Project

We went back to the stenciled logo for a final seal coat.
In the meantime the tile setters had been there and placed natural stone tiles in the cultural room.

This is the final look of the school logo:

Stenciled Concrete Logo

Silver Springs was approached with a request to stain a school logo into the floor of the school’s cultural room.

Using stencils we first created a small mock-up of the logo on our shop floor :

The mock-up went well and a lot of new experience was gain. Now it was time to put down the original on the school’s cultural room concrete floor.

New challenges awaited as this time the circular “canvas” was raised 2 inches from the rest of the floor and for the original size two stencil sheets had to be lined up perfectly. Later natural stone will be set in to match the elevation of the raised circle.

A little apprehensive to see how this concrete is taking the acetone colour, as penetration is unique to all concrete flooring; depending on mix design, temperatures and finishing processes. Other variables can also play a rile and it is always best to test first if a test area is available.

After two layers of stencil and four colour applications only the outlines are missing.

Making sure the last stencil goes on perfectly to show only the outlines.

One could not guess the beautiful artwork already lying underneath this stencil.
Prior to the last colour application we etched the areas to be black with acid gel to open up the pores to take the colour with more intensity.

And the finished logo with crisp clear outlines and abutting colours. Perfect!
From gray drab concrete to an artist’s vision transfered onto concrete flooring. The possibilities are only limited by imagination!

Sustainable Polished Concrete

Polished Bathroom Floor

Preserving the planet’s natural resources and minimizing the ecological footprint of construction are vast endeavors that have taken on a universal focus.

Utilizing polished concrete as the floor finish is one of the most sustainable flooring alternatives available.

As a concrete slab is an essential component for nearly all construction projects, polishing that slab to offer a finish will not have need of the harvest, manufacture, and shipping of extra material.

There is no material sitting over top of the slab that will end up in a land-fill when it comes time to change it. Should a repolish be preferred, it can be completed with very little waste at a tiny proportion of the original installation cost.
